UK-born and Berlin-based artist and illustrator Dave the Chimp’s oeuvre started with skating and fanzines and is ranging from his famous ‘Human Beans’ to designing playgrounds today. His works can be found on his collaboration with URBAN NATION on Project M/11 in 2017. Together with Senor Schnu, Mina, Humble Writerz and Matt Jones, he designed the facade of the URBAN NATION museum in May/June 2020.
While skating through the 1980s, Dave the Chimp started painting on found wood and making fanzines in the mid 1990s, before he took his artworks to the streets in 1998. Today he is known as an illustrator, director, book publisher, curator, architect of skate-able sculptures and even playgrounds and the first UK artist with a signature shoe created for and by Vans. Most recognizable may be his ‘Human Beans’, painted beans encouraging positive vibrations by illustrating topics like change and protest culture. The Berlin-based artist exhibited in several solo shows in Europe and in group exhibitions alongside the leading names in the urban art scene, Banksy, Miss Van, Swoon, Shepard Fairey, Space Invader are some to name a few.
